CATHEDRAL OF STONE AND WATER
An evening of gathering and ritual at Jersey City’s Morris Canal Park, Cathedral of Stone and Water brought us together to connect with our land and our water, and with ourselves and one another, and create pathways that allow us to feel how integrated we already are with this land we call home.
Separation and disconnection from nature is a core wound of our time, and we often look to "pristine" landscapes to feel nature's beauty. But our urban landscapes hold just as much meaning, and just as much potential for sacred relationship between ourselves and nature.
Together, we collected sacred objects from the land and waters, co-constructed an altar, and came together in a ceremony. We live surrounded by waters we are told not to touch, waters that hold a lineage of disregard and abuse, but the waters have been giving life to people for thousands of years, and they still are. Without the river, we would not have the city.
